A 52-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing a woman repeatedly in the neck overnight.

Police were called to a home in Frenchville, a suburb about 5km north of the centre of Rockhampton, just after 7pm on Sunday to find a 38-year-old woman with “multiple” stab wounds.

She was rushed to Rockhampton Hospital where she remains in a serious condition.

The woman had to call for help herself after the incident, according to Detective Inspector Luke Peachey.

“The triple-0 call was made by the victim, her injuries at this stage are unknown from us, we know that she received multiple stab wounds from what’s believed to be a sharp object, probably a knife,” he said

A crime scene was established at the home on Sunday night and continues to be active as police investigate and try to determine the alleged weapon.

The man, who lives at the Frenchville home with the woman, was charged with one count of attempted murder (domestic violence) and will appear in Rockhampton Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

A number of people including neighbours witnessed the “distressing” incident, according to Inspector Peachey.

“(We’ve) once again seen another alleged act of domestic violence with an edge weapon, it’s obviously of concern given how many we’ve seen in the last couple of months in Rockhampton,” he said.

“We ask people to cool off or to call support services out there. If you are thinking about doing something like this, then please seek help.”
