Richard Pusey: Porsche drivers wild outburst during bail application

May 2024 · 3 minute read

The Porsche driver who filmed dying police officers after the horror Eastern Freeway crash has erupted during his own bail application, claiming he’d get “better justice in Belarus”.

Richard Pusey is facing charges of false imprisonment, make threats to kill and reckless conduct for allegedly “placing a noose around the neck” of the woman and assault in relation to a separate incident in December last year.

“I’ll see you next Monday … I’m really not interested in this judicial system, it doesn’t work, it doesn’t help anyone,” Pusey told the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday afternoon.

“I would get better justice in Belarus under (President Alexander) Lukashenko.”

The 43-year-old has served his 10-month jail term for outraging public decency and other offences in relation to the crash but remains in custody on the separate charges.

“Go home, I’m ending it goodbye, thank you. Cancelled,” he said during his outburst.

It came as a police officer was due to give a summary about the allegations at Pusey’s bail hearing and after he aborted an attempt at seeking a suppression order over the hearing.

Magistrate Luisa Bazzani ordered Pusey’s microphone to be muted during his outburst.

“I won’t tolerate language like this,” Ms Bazzani said.

“I’m rolling my eyes here.”

Defence lawyer Manny Nicolosi asked if he could try to speak to his client and the court hearing was briefly adjourned.

Mr Nicolosi said he was unable to reach his client but said it seemed “unequivocal” that his client did not wish to continue the hearing.

The magistrate told the court that Pusey had been removed from the interview “because he damaged a camera” and was refusing to return to the room.

“We will pull the application, I don't want Mr Pusey to be coerced into something he doesn’t want to do,” the defence lawyer told the court.

The move came after Pusey asked for a suppression order application be abandoned so the hearing could continue.

The charges are unrelated to the Eastern Freeway crash, which resulted in Pusey being charged and convicted of outraging public decency, reckless conduct endangering serious injury by speeding and drug possession.

Ice-addled truck driver Mohinder Singh ploughed into the scene, killing all four officers while Pusey avoided injury because he was urinating away from the road. Singh was jailed for 22 years after pleading guilty to four counts of culpable driving causing death.

Lynette Taylor, Glen Humphris, Kevin King and Joshua Prestney died in the horror crash.

Pusey was also put on a two-year good-behaviour bond, slapped with a $1000 fine and his licence was suspended for two years.
