Question Yourself (in the best way possible) with boygenius New Single Not Strong Enough (L

The girls are back at it again with another single “Not Strong Enough” — a classic boygenius case of tear-jearking lyrics paired with a more upbeat melody (and of course a silly little music video to go with it).

Their self-titled debut EP, ‘boygenius,’ blew everyone out of the water following its release in 2018, with raw lyrics and fervent vocals coming from the trio, comprising of Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus. However, since the release of this EP, the talented collective have remained silent for the most part, only having released solo projects the past few years, but 2023 appears to have a different trajectory for the indie supergroup.

This year has reaped in a lot of success for the group in such a small period of time, starting with the announcement of their debut full-length album, The Record, back in January. The announcement of said album was also paired with the release of three singles off of the record, “$20,”, “Emily I’m Sorry,” and “True Blue.” “Not Strong Enough” is the fourth offering off from the new album, which is set to release through Interscope on March 31.

Each of the previously released singles highlights vocals as well as songwriting abilities from each of the members of the group, however “Not Strong Enough” definitely feels like a more collaborative piece — the exchange of verses followed by them coming together for the chorus: “The Way I Am/Not Strong Enough to be your man,” really made this feel like a unifying piece.

Tonight, boygenius will be playing the Tibet House Benefit at Carnegie Hall, followed by a string of performances including Coachella and the 2023 Re:SET concert series. The Re:SET tour is set to begin June 2 in San Diego at the Snapdragon Stadium and will be accompanied by artists like Clairo, Dijon and Bartees Strange.

The music video was shot by each of the members of the band and edited by Bridgers’ brother, Jackson. It is truly a good, wholesome video, which you can watch below.
