Noah Thompson Reflects on the Life-Changing Moment When He Won American Idol (Exclusive) C

Noah Thompson has lived a true Cinderella story this year.

The Kentucky native went from being a construction worker in a town with a population of only 2,852 people to capturing the hearts of millions, winning Season 20 of American Idol back in May.

Encouraged by his “work buddy” Arthur to audition for the longest-running singing competition series, Thompson never thought that his dream of becoming a country singer would become a reality.

“Arthur told me I was going to win it from the beginning,” Thompson tells Celeb Secrets Country reporter Ilana Epstein in an exclusive interview. “I wasn’t trying to make an impact. I’m just a regular guy.”

The 20-year-old became a fan favorite after performing a jaw-dropping rendition of Rihanna‘s “Stay” during the show’s “showstopper round” and his praiseworthy winner’s walk performance, ultimately sealing the deal for the Big W at the end of the season. And after realizing that the performance was one of the main reasons why he made it to the top, Thompson released the song that gave him his ultimate breakout moment on July 29.

“I feel like my performance of ‘Stay’ was one of my bigger moments on the show, and after seeing the way fans reacted, I knew I wanted to put a Country version of the song out into the world,” says Thompson in a press statement.

In our interview, Noah tells our reporters that he’s still taking it all in while finding his footing as he prepares to release new music later this year. Working with some of the most sought-after tunesmiths in Nashville and recording with notable producer Jimmy Robbins (Keith Urban, Kelsea Ballerini, Maren Morris, Mickey Guyton), Thompson has a promising career ahead of him as his rough-hewn Country vocals mixed with contemporary sounds keep the tradition of the genre alive while moving with the times. He continues to grow his following on both Instagram and TikTok, getting fans excited for what’s to come for the rest of 2022.
