WITH her 98-year-old father Tom O’Neill and sister Paulette Munro by her side, Channel 9 news reader Jo Hall celebrated 35 years at Channel 9 with a party in the Docklands on Wednesday night.

Hall paid tribute to her family, including her four children for being there supporting her during the 35 years.

Nine newsreaders Peter Hitchener and Tony Jones, and Channel 9 Melbourne boss Ian Paterson lead the tributes for Hall.

“Of all the people over the years that I’ve been able to trust and confide in, in the newsroom, it’s been Joey,” Jones told the crowd at Platform 28.

“On personal issues, professional issues, it doesn’t matter.”

“The one thing about Jo, and I’m not just saying this because it’s her night, she has never ever, in all the time that I’ve known her, said anything bad about anybody.”

Hall told Confidential that like many in the industry, she is a survivor.

“You would think that longevity in the industry is rare, but when you analyse it, it’s not,” she said.

“Peter Hitchener has been at Nine for 42 years, Tony Jones 27 years, and a lot of people at work, Tracy Grimshaw, Liz Hayes, have been there for a long time.

“There are lots of people who have survived, and I am one of those.”

The entire Channel 9 newsroom was at the event to support Hall including Livinia Nixon, Nine Melbourne news boss Hugh Nailon, and national news boss Darren Wick.
