Harvey Weinstein Trying To Eliminate Sex Trafficking Claims Months Before Trial

April 2024 · 2 minute read

According to a report from Page Six, Harvey Weinstein and his attorney-at-law are working hard to get accusations dropped in a lawsuit involving the actress, Wedil David, who accused the former Miramax executive of rape four years ago in 2015.

Weinstein’s attornies filed papers in a Manhattan Federal Court, asking the judge to drop the actress’ claims, claiming that she is merely capitalizing on other women’s legal victory who accused Harvey of rape and other misconduct.

Apparently, Weinstein said he would give her a job on the television series, Marco Polo, and brought her to a hotel room in Beverly Hills, where he raped her. She made the claim in the lawsuit filed in 2017. They first met in 2011, and Harvey offered to help her career, moreover, he invited her to awards ceremonies and other parties for years.

Weinstein’s lawyer claims the sex trafficking claims aren’t applicable because they apply primarily to things such as human trafficking for commercial gain, involuntary servitude, as well as the criminalization of slavery. Harvey’s lawyer said the claims are an egregious “perversion” of the existing legislation.

Thus far, Harvey has denied all of the allegations of sexual misconduct, stating that all of them were consensual. Furthermore, Harvey and his lawyer claimed David is trying to profit from the headlines and try to get her name in the public by adding additional sex trafficking accusations.

Previously, the woman dropped out of a $44,000,000 lawsuit against the producer which was hammered out by Weinstein’s former company. Amid the sexual misconduct allegations, The Weinstein Company went bankrupt, with executives trying to sell the company at the last minute.

As it was previously reported, Harvey was first accused back in the final months of 2017, starting with actresses such as Ashley Judd, Mira Sorvino, Rose McGowan, Asia Argento, and Gwyneth Paltrow, among others. Supposedly, for years people in the Hollywood industry knew of the producer’s behavior but said nothing.
